Mac Lewis

Mangatete Potteries was established over 40 years ago by Mac Lewis and Maureen Hitchings.

Mac moved to New Zealand with limited potting experience and was fortunate enough to be able to work at Barry Brickell's pottery in Coromandel. Barry's influence formed the basic principles of Mangatete Potteries - use of local materials and wood firing.

Today the pottery specialises in "traditional" functional stoneware. Mostly local clays are fired in wood and gas kilns.

Unique and durable pots are perfect for everyday use, and can be purchased at the pottery located just off State Highway 10 at Kaingaroa in the Far North of New Zealand, where Mac now calls home.

The pottery is open to the public 7 days a week.
